How do I play out of bunkers?

goateegolf999December 22, 2022December 23, 2022

Bunkers, also known as sand traps, are a common hazard on golf courses and can be challenging for even the most experienced golfers. Here are some tips on how to play out of bunkers:

  1. Open the clubface: When playing out of a bunker, it is important to open the clubface slightly. This will allow you to make contact with the sand behind the ball, rather than the ball itself, and help you get the ball out of the bunker more easily.
  2. Take a wider stance: A wider stance can help you maintain your balance and stability in the bunker. Position your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and make sure your weight is evenly distributed.
  3. Play the ball forward in your stance: Positioning the ball forward in your stance can help you make better contact with the sand and get the ball out of the bunker more easily.
  4. Use a steep swing: When playing out of a bunker, you will need to make a steep, downward swing to get the ball out of the sand. This means taking a more vertical backswing and a more vertical downswing, rather than a sweeping, horizontal swing.
  5. Follow through: After making contact with the ball, continue your swing and follow through to a full finish. This helps ensure that you are using the full potential of the club and helps generate maximum distance.

By following these tips and practicing regularly, you should be able to improve your bunker play and get out of the sand more easily. Remember, it takes time and dedication to improve, so be patient and keep working at it.
